Can guests share wedding photos without downloading an app?

Answer·Last updated: ·By Ali Mert Güleç

Short answer

Yes. In Photonza the QR code opens a page in the browser; the guest types a name and uploads photos from the gallery or camera. No app download, account, phone number or e-mail. Face recognition runs in the browser too.

Why an app is a problem

Asking wedding guests to install an app adds friction every time: store passwords, phone storage, weak venue Wi-Fi, a sign-up form. Every extra step lowers how many people join. A page that opens in the browser removes all of them.

What works in the browser

  • Uploading several photos and videos from the gallery
  • Viewing the shared live feed, liking, leaving short notes ("moments")
  • Selfie face search: the face signature is computed in the phone's browser, the selfie image is not uploaded
  • Downloading your own photos (unless the owner turned downloads off)
  • Optionally adding it to the home screen (PWA), still without an app store

What participation looks like

At a real wedding (26 September 2026), 75 guests joined by QR code and 48 of them (64%) searched for their own photos with a selfie. None installed an app. Details: real wedding data.

Frequently asked questions

Which phones does it work on?

Any iPhone or Android phone with an up-to-date browser. The camera reads the QR code and the page opens in Safari or Chrome.

Do guests need an account?

No. They only type the name shown at the event. No phone number, e-mail or password.

What if the venue internet is weak?

Uploads pause when the connection drops and resume when it returns. Guests can also upload from home after the wedding.
