How does a QR code for wedding photos work?
Answer·Last updated: ·By Ali Mert Güleç
Short answer
You create a QR code for the event and place it on tables, invitations or the entrance. A guest scans it with the phone camera, types a name on the page that opens and uploads photos; no app, no account. Every photo lands in one shared gallery, and the event owner downloads them all at once.
Step by step
- Create the event. Photonza generates a QR code, an invite code (format AND-XXXXXX) and a 4-digit PIN.
- Put the code where people look. Table cards, a welcome sign, the invitation or the photo corner, with one line next to it: "Upload your photos here, find yourself with a selfie."
- Guests scan and type a name. The page opens in the browser. No app, account, phone number or e-mail.
- Photos collect in one place. Guest and photographer shots land in the same live feed.
- Everyone finds themselves. A guest takes a selfie and face recognition picks out their photos. The selfie image never leaves the phone.
- Download everything. The owner downloads all content from the dashboard. Photos and face data are deleted 30 days after the event ends.
What happened at a real wedding?
At a wedding on 26 September 2026, 75 guests joined by QR code. Only 16 joined on the night; 59 joined over the next four days, once photos were shared. The QR code keeps working after the wedding, so re-sharing it in a thank-you message raises participation. Full numbers: real wedding data.
Where to place the QR code
| Place | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Table cards | Guests see it as soon as they sit down |
| Welcome sign | Everyone walks past it |
| Invitation | Guests have the code before the day |
| Post-wedding message | Most guests join after the wedding |
Printing the code at least 3 × 3 cm on a matte surface makes it easier to scan.
Frequently asked questions
Do guests need an app to scan the QR code?
No. The built-in camera on iPhone and Android reads QR codes directly and the page opens in the browser.
Is there a guest limit?
Not in Photonza. Packages are sized by the number of uploaded photos; guest count is unlimited and guests never pay.
Do photos lose quality?
No. The original file is kept and a separate web copy is made so the feed loads fast. Downloads give the original.
Can the same QR code be used after the wedding?
Yes. The code keeps working after the event; guests can reach photos and the face search for 30 days.
