Deliver marathon photos to every runner with a selfie

Find runners' finish line moments

Photonza is a web platform that delivers the thousands of photos taken at marathons, triathlons and cycling races to athletes through their own faces. A runner scans the QR code on the bib or at the finish area, joins without an app and finds every frame from the start, the course and the finish line with one selfie in seconds. Organisers bulk-upload, add a watermark or put frames up for sale.

How does a runner find their own photo among thousands?

Instead of tagging bib numbers by hand, face recognition is used. The numeric signature from the runner's selfie is matched against faces in the race photos; caps and sunglasses can make matching harder, and a second selfie from another angle improves the result. Crowded start-line shots are scanned in tiles; in shots taken from very far away some faces may not be found.

How are race photos delivered to athletes?

The organiser or photographer bulk-uploads on race day. The runner takes a selfie after the finish and downloads their frames; no e-mailed link days later, no photo search form. Medal and group shots runners take themselves go into the same feed.

Organisers can give photos away or sell them; watermarked previews and download permission are managed from the dashboard.

How does capacity work at big races?

Athletes are unlimited; capacity is measured in uploaded photos, and every photo or video counts as one. An unlimited enterprise package exists for races with thousands of participants. Downloads stay open 30 days after the event, then all media is deleted.

Frequently asked questions

Does the runner take the selfie before or after the race?
Either. The selfie can be taken before, during or after; matching runs over every photo in the feed at that moment and can be repeated as new uploads arrive.
Is there bib-number recognition?
Matching is by face. Bib-number reading is not offered as a separate feature; photos are sorted automatically into categories such as start, finish and medal.
Can I sell the photos?
Yes. Frames are put up for sale from the organiser dashboard; the runner sees a watermarked preview and the purchase is completed over WhatsApp or e-mail.
How many photos can be uploaded?
500, 2,000, 5,000 photos or unlimited depending on the package. Every file uploaded by the photographer and by participants counts against the same capacity; an unlimited enterprise package covers races with tens of thousands of frames.
